Some things that it can do: create polls, databases, forms for collecting data, various views and graphs, slideshows – of course! – and a number of other things, like project management, business solutions, and candidate selection.

Posted by olaplante in : Blogroll , add a commentThis is a webquest that was created as the final project in the online class I took this semester.

While of course, this should only be considered in the context of the class, I thought I would use this opportunity to share with you a resource that some of you might like and use in their trainings.
Here you will also find a wiki I set up for the Authentic Data session where I tried to include David Warlick’s 4 E’s instead of 3 R’s.

My Blog and My Calendar May 10, 2007
Posted by olaplante in : Blogroll , add a commentIt’s funny to be writing about a blog in a blog, but here is my main blog.
http://teachinginmaine.blogspot.com/
Unfortunately, filtering tends to only get worse, and more and more stuff is blocked in the school district. I lost access to the blog, but I used it quite a few times. If you are at a school right now, good luck! ![]()
My calendar is the one Becky shared with us; it’s free and interactive. Again, I am a strong supporter of “webdesign outsourcing”, and encourage my teachers to use sites like this one instead of building everything from scratch. It’s not a blanket belief though, and is quite discriminatory.

Famous 20th Century Russians Halloween Party
http://www.portlandschools.org/CTS/staffdev/techleader/Website/russianwq/
I intended to use this in an actual Russian class; however, keeping the kids after school was a bit of a challenge and they quickly dissipated. Anyway, a friend of mine used the idea, because he loved it, a bit of self-flattery there, and keeps promising to give me a sample of a student’s work.
Generally, when it comes to foreign languages instruction, most webquests focus on the cultural aspect of it, which I did, too.
The collaborative piece is a little weak there, but I just love the idea. You will see that the collaborative piece is much better in my other webquest, below. In addition, I believe some subjects just yield themselves better to cooperative learning than others.
Social Networks

This one was actually created as part of a class I took in order to get the 680 endorsement, but I have decided to include it anyway, simply because I think this is a pretty solid webquest and you might use it in your prof dev career.
